PaleoCore is an NSF funded initiative (NSF 726205) to develop data standards and digital infrastructure for paleoanthropology. PaleoCore addresses the common scientific challenge of merging together results from independent research programs in order to conduct broad, synthetic analyses. The answers to major scientific questions arise when independent groups can successfully exchange and integrate their data into a comprehensive framework for analysis. The goals of the PaleoCore project are:

1. to develop and publish a data standard for prehistory research 2. to develop software tools that facilitate researchers’ ability to collect data directly into databases, especially geospatial databases 3. to develop a web portal that integrates individual project databases online

Through these goals the project seeks, more broadly, to develop tools that support digital infrastructure, data exchange and interoperability in the social and behavioral sciences.
