The graph database team at Oracle has released a Protege Plugin for Oracle Database as well as Oracle NoSQL Database Enterprise Edition Release 2.0.39. This plugin allows an easy integration of Protege 4.1's visual ontology editing functions with the robust semantic data management capabilities provided by Oracle Database and Oracle NoSQL Database EE.




Description

This plugin integrates the Oracle Database as well as the Oracle NoSQL Database Enterprise Edition Release 2.0.39 with Protege 4 (current version works only with Protege 4.1). Users are able to create a new ontology or load an existing one from the Oracle databases, and use the full features of Protege to edit the ontology. Users are also able to save the inferred ontology in a separate database.

Once the plugin is installed, the welcome screen will show two additional options:

A new menu item will also be installed that gives access to the Oracle plugin features:

A detailed users' guide is available in the downloaded zip file under the folder: protege_plugin/Oracle_Protege_Plugin.pdf.


Download and install

To download the plugin, please go to Oracle download site. You need to accept the OTN license by clicking on the Accept radio button, and then download the file called rdf_graph_for_nosql_database.zip, as shown below. You will also need an Oracle account to download the plugin.

A detailed installation guide (Oracle_Protege_Plugin.pdf) and the plugin jar file (OraclePlugin.jar) are located under the protege_plugin/ directory of the downloaded zip file. To install the plugin, copy the jar file under the plugins folder of Protege 4. For further installation instructions, please read the detailed installation guide available in the zip file..
